Alive Cycle in aid of Charity 2017
A thought, a follow-up, a contact, and an action plan to engage in another fund-raising event towards a charitable cause is the long and short of what then had me cycle in excess of 1,000 kilometres in 7 days from Copenhagen, through Berlin to Warsaw. The funds raised went towards cancer research.
The event itself was a tough challenge, cycling as much as 180 kilometres on a long day and facing the elements (at times through lonely moments), but when you think of others who are suffering the consequences of medical conditions such as cancer, you quickly put things in perspective and bear with the odd ache or pain as you cycle away a seemingly never-ending hill.
Some ask “why do you need to go through such lengths to raise funds for charity?” to which I answer: “why not?” Taking time off work is a requisite for a healthy lifestyle. Combining that time as my annual leave with one of the sports I enjoy, and giving back something to society, makes it that more meaningful.
